The highly anticipated Blow Lepara Celebrity Tournament has returned for its second year, bringing together 12 schools in a celebration of sport, talent, and entertainment. This exciting event, led by South Africa’s rising musical star Blow Lepara, aims to bridge the gap between education, arts, and sports by providing a platform for students to showcase their athletic prowess while engaging with notable figures from the entertainment industry.
The tournament kicked off on September 11, 2024, with the first four schools competing, and concluded on September 13, 2024, with the last four schools bringing the excitement to a close. This year’s event has been eagerly anticipated by learners, who look forward to the opportunity to shine on the field, connect with celebrities, and celebrate their skills. The tournament has become a highlight on the school calendar, fostering a sense of pride and excitement within participating schools and communities.
The success of this year’s tournament would not have been possible without the invaluable support of various stakeholders. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) for their unwavering commitment to youth development and their collaboration in ensuring the success of this initiative. The Blow Lepara Foundation, in partnership with Ponelopele Community Development, is proud to present the Blow Lepara Celebrity School Soccer Tournament. This exciting initiative aims to provide a platform for young soccer players and upcoming artists to showcase their talents, while also promoting education and career development in these fields.
The tournament is the brainchild of Blow Lepara, a renowned musician from Pretoria Atteridgeville, who was inspired by his late mother’s love for music and sport. As a role model and one of the best musicians to come out of Pretoria, Blow Lepara is committed to giving back to his community through this initiative.
Twelve schools from the Pretoria area will participate in the tournament, each representing their educational institution with a unique color. The winning school will receive a new soccer kit, gold medals, and a trophy, while the second-best team will walk away with silver medals
In addition to the school tournament, a celebrity game will take place on the final day, September 20, 2024, featuring public figures such as actors, actresses, presenters, and musicians. These include Otto Nobela, Chilli Bite, Touchline, Gash 1, Lollie Native, Vigro Deep, Sheldon Marema, Sje Konka, Major Steez, Hungwani Ndlovu, Teejay Mr Trapster, Freddy K, Tebasto, Mapara Jazz, Dinho Cafe, Stone, Bugzito, Clement, and Terrence.
The mission of this initiative is to build a well-grounded system of educational background and productive sportsmanship, providing opportunities for young people to develop their skills in music, sport, and education. The vision is to host the tournament yearly, producing world-class soccer players who are equipped mentally, emotionally, educationally, and physically.
